Pet Loss Memorial for Loss of Cat

Remembering Snookie: One Year Later

It’s hard to believe that a year has already passed since I said goodbye to Snookie. Time has a way of moving forward, but not a day goes by that I don’t think of him. The house still carries echoes of his presence, quiet reminders of the joy, comfort, and laughter he brought into my life for 16 wonderful years.

Snookie wasn’t just a cat; he was family. I called him my “dog-cat” because of his big personality and his uncanny ability to communicate. From tapping my face each morning to say “Mom,” to meowing “Out” when he wanted fresh air, to repeating “Tomorrow” when I told him he had to wait, he was always finding ways to make himself understood. He had a sense of humor too, especially when he’d sneak off with my pens, leaving me to discover his hidden stash later. Those little quirks are missed more than words can express.

One of the most beautiful memories I hold close is the bond he shared with Pumpkin. When I rescued her as a fragile kitten, Snookie stepped in as both protector and companion. They were thick as thieves, always curled up together or competing for my attention. That special connection gave me so much comfort and joy, and I see glimpses of it in Pumpkin even today.

Snookie and Pumpkin - Furever Friends

Grief is strange; it softens over time, but the love remains as strong as ever. Snookie’s absence is felt deeply, yet his spirit lives on in my heart. I remember him in quiet moments, when I catch myself expecting to hear his voice, or when Pumpkin does something that reminds me of him.

It’s a bit over a week past the one-year anniversary of his passing, I honor Snookie not with sadness alone, but with gratitude. Gratitude for the years we shared, for the lessons he taught me about unconditional love, and for the way he reminded me, every single day; that pets truly are family.

Snookie will always be remembered, always be loved, and always be missed.
