Tell our readers about your company.
My name is Sheileen McLaughlin and I own and operate Go Dog Go, LLC. We are a premier dog walking and pet sitting company that serves Pittsburgh's East End since 1998.
When did you get into this line of work or how long have you been in this position?
I began walking my dog Fergus in Frick Park when I moved back to Pittsburgh, PA. I had left a job in advertising in California and knew I wanted to pursue something else. I spent the hikes thinking about what I wanted to be when I ‘grew’ up. My friend asked if I would take her dog Lucy along too. The rest just seemed to follow organically as the business grew into the thriving success it is today. It is the best job I could have ever dreamed of having.
Go Dog Go, LLC provides off leash socialization and exercise with a strong emphasis on positive-reward based training. We want the best for our clients and their pets, as we consider them family and friends.
Do you have a pet or pets that join you at work, and if so, what are their names and roles?
Mijo is my dog and he accompanies me on walks from time to time and my cat Cinco, holds down the office. He is a poly dactyl, so he’s very handy at the keyboard…
How does your product or service help pets and pet parents?
Raising a family, working and having a pet are all a full-time jobs on their own, luckily my full-time job is supporting our clients and letting their pets live their best lives. I offer insight and guidance to the families we work with for years and generations. The pets get top level care from a trusted, experienced source and that we foster a relationship based on mutual trust and respect.
What challenges have you faced in running your company or growing your brand? How did you overcome them?
My biggest hurdle was trying to do everything myself. I have learned to delegate parts of the business to different members of my team. By trusting my team with more responsibility and challenges, they have risen to the occasion, feel empowered and our whole company is happier and healthier than ever before. I truly feel that we are a team and that our successes are shared by all of us.
What qualities have made you successful or do you feel are important for inspiring leaders?
I have always operated on the principle- treat others how you would want to be treated for myself, clients and employees.
