Understanding Our Pets' Unique Role in Our Lives
Pets With a Purpose Beyond Companionship
Have you ever thought that your pet may be a spirit guide? I ask because they leave this world very differently than a regular animal does. I'm going to share the difference with you.
Recognizing the Signs of a Spirit Guide Pet
I have had both dog and cat spirit guides. They tend to be happy all the time, almost disgustingly so. They don’t shy away when you are having a difficult day, they will usually come up to comfort you, or at least calmly reassure you with their presence. They will find the joy in things, especially when you are together. The biggest thing to remember is they're not here in this lifetime to sort any type of past karma out, they are here to support YOU.
Not having karma issues means they don’t need to learn how to deal with illness or let go of entanglements in relationships. They can be petty at times but don’t hold a grudge.
Let Go of Guilt - Their Journey Was Never About Suffering
They aren't here to learn. They're here to support. They don't have anything to learn by having a long, drawn-out death. It has been my experience that most of the pets that are spirit guides will die suddenly. Both of mine were gone in a day without ever being sick. I had a premonition that they were going to be gone before they left, a lightning bolt of fear that I will now recognize if I ever feel it again. When it happened, I felt it was out of context because both pets were young and healthy.
It felt like they didn't want to go, but they couldn't stop it either. Patsy was my first Bichon and my spirit guide. I was devastated by losing her. She walked between two of my horses when they were arguing, got stepped on and was just gone.
A very weird accident. This is the reason I'm telling you about spirit guide pets. So that those of you who have animals that are spirit guide pets, let yourself off the hook for the way they die. Because they don't have anything to learn from their death, they chose to transition as effectively and quickly as possible.
It could be an accident, a sudden disappearance, or they mysteriously don’t wake up in the morning. It will be planned beforehand on the other side. You can't stop the death. This is nothing to feel guilty about, and they work by different rules than an incarnated soul, that's wanting to learn and to progress in their spiritual development.
A Personal Encounter with a Spirit Guide Pet
Two months after I lost Patsy, I was on a tour of the Mayan ruins in Mexico. I could feel she knew that I'd been sad because I had lost her two days before I lost my mom. My brother called and said, “Mom was sicker.” But I didn’t understand the situation because I had just lost my dog in this strange mishap. I was numb and didn't get the hit that she was going to die. Two days later, my mother was dead. My grief felt like I had been double punched in the stomach then someone kicked me viciously when I was down.
On the Mayan tour we were on a bus. I tend to get spiritual information when travelling (I have a rule that they cannot come into my dreams).
Sitting on the bus, I felt Patsy’s spirit come from behind me, enter my body, and then lift me up. It felt like an angel had come into my body, lifted me up and given me pure joy. It was the most joyous feeling I have ever had, and I channel people from heaven every day. I was sitting there silently crying sheets of tears because it was so beautiful.
I looked at the woman sitting across the aisle from me. She was crying sheets of tears too, blubbering silently. I looked at her. She said: “it's just so beautiful.” I've never talked to her about the experience, but I could tell that she felt Patsy’s presence.
Patsy’s coming into my body was her letting me know that she was a spirit guide. That experience showed she was quite all right! Her energy was incredible. Even though she had crossed over she was still very much present in this world. I firmly believe guilt isn't a necessary emotion with the death of our beloved pets.
Grief Blocks, Love Opens
What keeps you from getting in contact with pets on the other side is your grief, your sadness, and your guilt. Feel honored that your pet came down here and incarnated with you for a period of time. Bless the whole experience and remember the love because that's what that was about, the love and the support, not guilt, not sorrow.
Things happen the way they happen, and you can't change them. You're not going to make it up by feeling bad about it. So instead honor the fact that your pet lived. Feel honored that they loved you as much as they did whether or not they were your spirit guide. Because from what I know of dogs and cats, most of them are spirit guides in training.
The Mission Behind the Love
At Pet Perennials, we understand that pets are not “just animals.” They are family, companions, healers, and yes, spirit guides. That’s why we create heartfelt remembrance gifts that honor their legacy. Whether you’ve experienced the loss of a beloved pet or want to help someone else through grief, our mission is to support healing through meaningful connection.
Celebrate their memory. Acknowledge the love. Let go of guilt. And when you’re ready, we’re here to help you honor the paw prints left on your heart.
